EXPERIMENT 06 · TOUCH

Change the Glide

The question

What changes when the same touch moves with more or less friction?

Method

Begin with your usual amount of glide.

Choose a familiar kind of touch in a location where changing friction can be done comfortably and safely.

Then change only the friction.

Move throBegin with your usual amount of lubrication and let that become the baseline.

Then compare a few different levels of glide by adjusting lubrication or another safe condition that changes how easily the surfaces move across each other.

Keep the location, movement, pace, and pressure as similar as you reasonably can.

What to Notice

Notice whether changing friction alters:

  • how smooth or resistant the contact feels
  • the apparent intensity or pressure of the touch
  • comfort
  • pleasure or arousal
  • how much the skin or tissue moves with the contact
  • whether you want to change movement, pace, or pressure

Possible results

More friction may make the contact feel more direct or more intense.

More glide may make movement feel easier, broader, or less irritating. You may prefer different levels of friction for different movements or at different points in arousal.

You may also find that friction is difficult to separate from pressure or movement. That is useful information too.

The goal is not to find the least or most lubrication you can tolerate. It is to notice what changes when the same touch moves differently across the body.

a reason to stop

Do not reduce lubrication below what remains comfortable and safe for the location being explored. If changing friction causes pain, irritation, numbness, or discomfort, add lubrication or stop.

Internal touch requires adequate lubrication and should not be used to test increasingly dry contact.
