EXPERIMENT 05 · TOUCH
Who Moves?
The question
What changes when the same contact is created by moving the hand, moving the body, or moving both?
Method
Begin the way you normally would.
Choose a familiar kind of touch and a location you already know.
Then change who creates the movement.
Compare a few versions:
•keep the body relatively still while the hand creates the movement
•keep the hand relatively still while the body moves against it
•allow both the hand and body to move together
Keep the location, pressure, and general pace as similar as you reasonably can.
What to Notice
Notice whether changing the source of movement alters:
- the quality or intensity of the sensation
- your sense of rhythm
- muscular involvement or whole-body engagement
- pleasure or arousal
- how active, passive, controlled, or automatic the experience feels
Possible results
Body-driven movement may feel more immersive.
Hand-driven movement may feel more precise. Moving both may feel less controlled but more natural.
Or the differences may be small.
The point is not to decide which way of moving is better. It is to notice whether pleasure changes when the body participates in creating the contact rather than only receiving it.
