EXPERIMENT 02 · TOUCH
Pause Before Repeating
The question
Does the same touch feel different when it is repeated continuously versus after a brief pause?
Method
Begin with something familiar.
Choose a familiar kind of touch and keep the location, pressure, pace, and movement as consistent as you reasonably can.
Then interrupt the repetition.
Begin by repeating the touch continuously for a short period. Then stop. Leave a deliberate pause before repeating the same touch again.
You are not testing whether pauses are better than continuous stimulation. You are testing whether interruption changes the experience of repetition.
What to Notice
Notice whether the return feels:
- more noticeable
- less noticeable
- more anticipated
- more pleasurable
- more irritating or distracting
- essentially unchanged
Possible results
A pause may make the returning sensation stand out more clearly.
You may prefer continuity. The pause may create anticipation, break momentum, or do almost nothing. Repetition, arousal, attention, and what came before can all change what you notice.
If the result seems inconsistent, try the comparison again later rather than forcing a conclusion.
